Sacrifices are a way of life. And for the Amstel Malta Box Office, AMBO 5, contestants, this realization had been a part of them from the moment they came into the house in search of the good life AMBO promised them. The major sacrifice perhaps was leaving behind their friends and families to live with total strangers who also have eyes on the same prize they came for. The poignancy of this did not sink in until yesterday when each of the remaining contestants got a letter from a loved one.

Mrs. Awopetu praised Tolu, her daughter, for making everybody proud with her sterling showing in the house, which she said reaffirmed their belief over the years that she was born to act. She said that in spite of how well Tolu was doing, they could not wait to have her back home with them. After reading through the letter, Tolu looked on morosely as her hands trembled with emotions.

But the viewers were temporarily saved the burst of her tear ducts. Ovie’s brother was equally very proud of him, saying that his fan base had expanded in Benin where they live. He wrote further that so impressive were his strides and actions in AMBO that kids in their neighbourhood now mimic him. In fact, to show how happy they were for him, Ovie’s brother continued, a birthday cum welcome party was being planned in his honour. He concluded that home is where the heart is, thus Ovie should come home.

With the show still on course, the five housemates are oblivious to how popular AMBO has turned them. But, Bunmi, Shade’s bosom friend, knows how big her friend has become and in her letter, she described how Shade’s new found fame has rubbed off on her. “I tell anyone who cares to listen that you are my friend and that has made me very popular too,” she wrote.
Bunmi wrote further that a big party awaits Shade on arrival in Abuja. Not only is a party also being planned for Ivie, Pius, her friend, wrote that a flight had been booked for her because she has put up a good fight and whatever happens afterwards, they are immensely proud of her. Cleff, George’s manager, opined that every child that impressed their parents deserved a pat on the back, “One is waiting for you at home.”

And the atmosphere in the room became charged as a soft rock song with theme, ‘Going Home’, wafted into the air. Toluwani burst into tears. Shade lowered her head. George and Ivie smiled sardonically. Ovie was impassive. The AMBO House wore a somber look.
